Delhi-NCR Likely to Receive Multiple Spells of Rain Today, IMD Forecasts

Delhi-NCR is expected to experience multiple spells of rain on Wednesday as the southwest monsoon remains active over northwest India, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The weather department has predicted generally cloudy skies throughout the day, with very light to light rainfall expected across most parts of the national capital. Isolated locations may receive moderate showers during the morning hours, while another round of light rain is likely during the evening and night.

Monsoon Systems Driving the Weather

The IMD said the current weather pattern is being influenced by several active systems, including:

  • The monsoon trough over northern India.
  • An upper-air cyclonic circulation over southwest Uttar Pradesh.
  • An active western disturbance affecting northwest India.

These weather systems are expected to keep rainfall activity active across Delhi-NCR over the next several days.

Temperature to Remain Below Normal

The IMD has forecast a maximum temperature between 31°C and 33°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain between 22°C and 24°C.

Southeasterly winds with speeds of 10 to 15 kmph are likely to prevail throughout the day, contributing to relatively cooler conditions.

Rainfall Likely Through Early August

According to the IMD's seven-day forecast:

  • July 30: Light to moderate rainfall with another spell of light rain at night.
  • July 31 to August 2: Isolated spells of very light to light rainfall.
  • August 3: Several areas may receive light rain, especially during the early morning and before noon.

Cloudy skies are expected to persist throughout the forecast period.

Tuesday Recorded Delhi's Heaviest Rainfall This Year

Heavy monsoon showers on Tuesday disrupted daily life across the national capital, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, power outages and fallen trees in several areas.

The IMD said Tuesday was Delhi's rainiest day of 2026 so far and also the coldest day recorded in July in the past three years.

Safdarjung, the city's base weather station, recorded 57.6 mm of rainfall between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., while Pusa received the highest rainfall at 88.5 mm during the same period.

The IMD has advised residents to remain cautious while commuting, as intermittent showers may lead to waterlogging and slow-moving traffic in low-lying areas.
