Delhi-NCR Receives Heavy Rainfall, Ghaziabad Schools Closed as Flash Floods Hit Himachal Pradesh

Heavy monsoon rains lashed Delhi-NCR on Thursday morning, bringing normal life to a standstill in several areas. Delhi recorded 34.9 mm of rainfall within just three hours, leading to widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion, and disruptions to road transport. In view of the weather conditions, authorities ordered the closure of schools in Ghaziabad to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Several roads across the national capital witnessed water accumulation, slowing vehicular movement during the morning rush hour. Commuters faced long traffic jams as vehicles moved at a crawl through waterlogged stretches. Civic agencies deployed pumps and emergency teams to clear stagnant water and restore normal traffic flow.

Heavy Rain Affects Multiple States

The impact of the monsoon was not limited to Delhi-NCR. Heavy rainfall also affected Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh, causing floods, landslides, and damage to infrastructure.

In Maharashtra's Pimpri Chinchwad, a garbage mound reportedly collapsed after continuous rain, trapping several people beneath the debris. Rescue teams rushed to the site and launched operations to search for those feared trapped.

In Delhi's Rohini area, an under-construction four-storey building collapsed amid heavy rain. One person lost their life, while four others were rescued from the debris. Rescue personnel continued search operations as authorities feared that more people could still be trapped inside the collapsed structure.

Flash Floods Hit Himachal Pradesh

In Himachal Pradesh, flash floods triggered by continuous rainfall disrupted road connectivity in parts of Rampur subdivision in Shimla district. Overflowing streams and landslides blocked several roads, affecting transportation in the hilly region.

Local authorities advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in landslide-prone areas, as more rainfall is expected over the next few days. Emergency teams remained on alert to respond to any weather-related incidents.

Surat Reports Rain-Related Deaths

Gujarat's Surat district continued to battle the impact of heavy rainfall. Officials said at least nine people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents over the past few days.

Thousands of residents living in low-lying areas were shifted to safer locations as floodwaters entered residential neighbourhoods. The local administration also distributed food packets and essential supplies to people stranded in waterlogged areas, including residents living in high-rise buildings.

Authorities Issue Alerts

Weather officials have forecast more rain across North and West India, prompting authorities to maintain a high level of preparedness. Disaster response teams, municipal agencies, and local administrations have been placed on alert to deal with any emergencies arising from the ongoing monsoon conditions.

Residents have been advised to avoid waterlogged roads, remain indoors during intense rainfall, and follow official weather advisories. Authorities also urged commuters to check traffic updates before leaving for work, as intermittent heavy showers are expected to continue.

With monsoon activity intensifying across several states, officials are closely monitoring the situation to minimise disruption and ensure public safety.
