Activist Sonam Wangchuk is set to be discharged from Medanta Hospital on Monday after recovering from a 26-day hunger strike held over the alleged examination paper leak issue.

Following his discharge, Wangchuk is expected to travel directly to Rajghat in New Delhi to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi before leaving for his home in Ladakh.

Rajghat Visit Marks Symbolic End to Protest

According to available information, Rajghat will be Wangchuk's first destination after leaving the hospital.

The visit carries symbolic importance because he had also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat on June 28 before launching his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in support of students raising concerns over the alleged paper leak issue.

After offering floral tributes, Wangchuk is expected to depart for Ladakh.

Hunger Strike Lasted 26 Days

Wangchuk began his indefinite hunger strike on June 28 at Jantar Mantar.

As his health deteriorated during the protest, Delhi Police shifted him to Safdarjung Hospital on July 18. He was later admitted to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram following directions from the Delhi High Court for specialized medical treatment.

He ended his fast on July 24, saying the decision came after extensive discussions and in view of maintaining peace and preventing unrest.

Protest Over Examination Issues

The hunger strike was part of a wider movement demanding accountability and reforms related to the alleged examination paper leak issue.

The protest drew national attention and sparked discussions on examination security, transparency and education reforms.

CJP Protest Also Concludes

The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) also ended its 36-day protest at Jantar Mantar after the reported acceptance of its demands by the Centre.

During the agitation, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from his post, after which the protest was called off.

Responding to the developments, Wangchuk described the outcome as a victory for democracy, peaceful protest and public participation, while congratulating the students and protest organizers.
