Meerut Blue Drum Case Verdict Expected After 126 Hearings and 13 Months

The long-running Meerut Blue Drum Case involving the death of Saurabh Rajput has reached a crucial stage, with the Meerut district court expected to pronounce its verdict on Wednesday, September 30. The case has attracted widespread attention since the alleged recovery of Rajput’s body from inside a large blue drum at his residence. The proceedings have continued through 126 hearings, with more than 22 witnesses examined by the prosecution. Both sides have completed their arguments before District Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra, leaving the court with the task of delivering its decision. District government counsel Krishna Kumar Chaubey has said that the evidence, witness statements and arguments have already been placed before the court.

126 Hearings and More Than 22 Witnesses

One of the notable aspects of the Saurabh Rajput Murder Case has been the length of the court proceedings. The case has gone through 126 hearings, while more than 22 witnesses have provided testimony. The prosecution told the court that it had presented scientific and forensic evidence along with witness statements. The defence, meanwhile, presented its own arguments and questioned the prosecution's version of events. The case reached the court on March 17, 2025. Muskan and Sahil were sent to Meerut jail two days later, on March 19. The trial was subsequently transferred to the district judge’s court in July 2025, and arguments continued for around 13 months before the matter reached the verdict stage.

What Happened in the Meerut Case?

The case came to public attention after police allegedly recovered Saurabh Rajput’s remains from a blue drum at his house. According to the prosecution's case, the body had been concealed inside the container using cement. The prosecution has alleged that the killing was planned in advance. It told the court that items including a knife, razor, cement, sand and a large blue drum had allegedly been purchased before the killing. Police and forensic witnesses reportedly described the recovery of the remains, while post-mortem evidence was presented regarding injuries that investigators attributed to sharp-edged weapons. These pieces of evidence formed part of the prosecution's case before the court.

Prosecution Seeks Death Penalty

The prosecution has asked the court to impose the death penalty on Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla if they are found guilty. Government counsel Krishna Kumar Chaubey said that all relevant facts had been presented, witnesses had completed their testimony and the arguments had concluded. He indicated that the remaining step was the pronouncement of the verdict. The defence has taken a different position. Lawyers representing the accused have pointed to the absence of a direct eyewitness to the alleged killing and have sought relief for their clients. The final decision will depend on the court's assessment of the evidence, witness statements, forensic material and arguments made during the trial.

Defence Raises Questions Over Prosecution Case

The defence has maintained that there was no eyewitness to the alleged murder. It has also argued that the accused were implicated in the case in connection with a property dispute. This forms an important part of the defence position because the prosecution and defence have presented different interpretations of the circumstances surrounding Saurabh's death. The court's verdict will determine how the evidence presented during the lengthy trial is legally assessed. Until the court announces its decision, allegations made during the investigation or trial remain allegations and should not be treated as established facts.

Saurabh Rajput's Family Testimony

Saurabh's mother, Renu Rajput, has also spoken before the court and accused Muskan and Sahil of being responsible for her son's death. According to the case material reported by Hindustan Times, Renu told the court about Saurabh's marriage to Muskan and the circumstances surrounding their relationship. She said the two had married in 2016 after being in a relationship and had lived with Saurabh's family for several years. Renu also raised concerns about Saurabh's daughters and made allegations regarding their custody and family relationships. These claims form part of the broader family dispute surrounding the case, although the criminal court's primary task is to determine the charges arising from Saurabh's death.

Why the Verdict Matters in the Case

The expected decision marks the end of a trial that has continued for more than a year and involved repeated court hearings, witness examination and detailed arguments. The Meerut murder case has remained under public scrutiny because of the unusual manner in which the prosecution alleges that Saurabh's body was concealed. Earlier reports about the case also said investigators recovered the remains after the accused were questioned following the family's concerns about Saurabh's disappearance. The case has since moved from investigation to a detailed trial involving documentary, scientific and witness evidence. The court is now expected to decide the matter on the basis of the material formally presented during proceedings.

A Long Trial Reaches the Verdict Stage

The District Court Meerut is therefore expected to become the focus of attention on September 30 as the court prepares to pronounce its decision. With 126 hearings completed, more than 22 witnesses examined and arguments continuing for around 13 months, the case has gone through an extensive judicial process. The prosecution has pressed for the maximum punishment, while the defence has challenged key aspects of the prosecution's case. The verdict will establish the court's findings on the charges against Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla. Until that decision is formally pronounced, the allegations and competing claims presented during the trial remain subject to the court's determination.
