Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has cancelled the licence of a Jan Aushadhi Kendra operating at a government hospital in Dwarka after a viral video allegedly showed patients being denied medicines at the outlet.

The action came after a video circulated on social media in which a man claimed that staff at the medical store refused to provide prescribed medicines to patients and their attendants. The footage also appeared to show staff members dismissing complaints and telling the individual that recording the incident would not affect them.

Immediate Action Ordered

Reacting to the viral video, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said public services must always prioritize citizens and announced the immediate cancellation of the vendor's licence.

She stated that any individual or organization denying people their rightful government services or displaying arrogance toward the public would face strict legal action.

The Chief Minister emphasized that the Delhi government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against negligence, indifference, and misuse of authority in public-facing institutions.

Viral Video Triggered Investigation

The incident gained widespread attention after an Instagram Reel and other social media posts highlighted the alleged refusal to issue medicines at the Jan Aushadhi outlet.

According to the video, the complainant argued with the staff after they allegedly refused to dispense medicines. During the exchange, employees reportedly told him he could complain to anyone and continue recording without any consequences.

Following the video's circulation, the Chief Minister ordered an inquiry and announced disciplinary action against the vendor.

Focus on Accountability

The action also comes as the Delhi government moves to strengthen accountability through the proposed Delhi (Right of Citizen to Time Bound and Ease of Delivery of Service) Bill, 2026.

The proposed legislation seeks to make timely delivery of government services a legal right for citizens. It also includes provisions for:

• Time-bound delivery of notified public services.
• Complete digitization of government services.
• Automatic escalation of delayed applications.
• Creation of an independent Right to Service Commission.
• Financial penalties for officials responsible for unjustified delays or wrongful rejection of applications.

Under the proposed law, officials may face fines of ₹250 per day, up to a maximum of ₹5,000, for unreasonable delays or improper rejection of service requests.

Government Reaffirms Citizen-Centric Governance

The Delhi government said every public institution exists to serve citizens and that government services must be delivered efficiently, transparently, and respectfully.

Officials stated that strict action against negligence is intended to improve accountability and ensure that essential healthcare services remain accessible to all patients.
