Centre Plans Tough Anti-Paper Leak Law With 3-Month Trials and ₹10 Crore Fine

The Centre is preparing to introduce a stringent anti-paper leak law aimed at tackling examination fraud and restoring confidence in India's competitive exams.

According to sources, the proposed legislation will establish fast-track courts to hear paper leak cases, with trials expected to be completed and judgments delivered within three months.

Up to 10 Years in Jail and ₹10 Crore Fine

The proposed law includes strict penalties for those found guilty of organising or participating in paper leak rackets.

Key provisions are expected to include:

  • Up to 10 years of imprisonment
  • Fines of up to ₹10 crore
  • Mandatory fast-track trials
  • Time-bound disposal of cases within three months

The legislation is expected to become one of India's toughest legal frameworks against examination fraud.

Move Comes Amid NEET-UG Paper Leak Protests

The proposed law comes as protests over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak continue across the country, with students demanding accountability and reforms in the examination system.

The government has said it is committed to protecting students' interests and ensuring strict action against those responsible for compromising the integrity of competitive examinations.

PM Modi Announces Legal Action

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Thursday night, saying the government was treating the paper leak issue with utmost seriousness.

He announced that a dedicated anti-paper leak law was being prepared and said the draft legislation would be placed before the Union Cabinet before being introduced in Parliament.

The announcement came shortly before activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving government assurances on examination reforms and related issues.
