Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav launched a sharp attack on the Centre during the Lok Sabha debate on the proposed anti-paper leak amendment bill, questioning the government's record on preventing examination paper leaks and its response to student protests.

During his speech, Yadav alleged that the government had merely amended the existing law instead of introducing effective reforms to prevent future examination irregularities.

Questions Government's Record on Paper Leaks

Referring to examination leaks during the past decade, Yadav questioned the effectiveness of the existing legal framework.

He argued that if previous laws had been sufficient, multiple examination paper leaks would not have occurred. He also questioned whether the government could be trusted to implement stronger safeguards after failing to prevent earlier incidents.

Yadav further remarked that the amendment bill was only a modification of the existing legislation and accused the government of attempting to present it as a major reform.

Remarks on Student Protests

The Samajwadi Party chief also referred to recent student demonstrations in the national capital over the NEET paper leak issue.

He alleged that security measures, including the use of tear gas and other crowd-control methods, were employed against protesting students. He also stated that governments respond only when faced with sustained public pressure.

Debate Continues in Lok Sabha

The discussion on the anti-paper leak amendment bill began with Minister of State Jitendra Singh introducing the proposed legislation in the Lok Sabha.

The bill seeks to strengthen existing anti-paper leak laws by providing for stricter punishments, including imprisonment of up to 10 years and fines of up to ₹50 lakh for those involved in examination paper leaks and related offences.

Opposition Continues to Raise NEET Issue

The opposition has continued to raise concerns over the NEET paper leak controversy and has demanded accountability from the government over the handling of the issue and police action during recent student protests.

The anti-paper leak amendment bill was introduced amid protests in Parliament, with opposition parties insisting on a broader discussion before legislative business proceeds.

The debate is expected to continue as both the government and opposition present their positions on measures aimed at strengthening the integrity of competitive examinations in India.
