A government school teacher has been arrested in Gujarat’s Amreli district following allegations of sexual abuse involving four girl students, including the alleged rape of one student and molestation of three others. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the allegations. The case came to light after awareness activities at the school reportedly encouraged the students to speak about their experiences and seek help from their families. Police said the accused was taken into custody as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged incidents.

How the Allegations Came to Light

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Nayana Goradiya of Rajula, the Jafrabad police team had been conducting awareness seminars at the school under the district’s Mission Smile initiative. The sessions focused on the concepts of good touch and bad touch, helping students understand personal boundaries and recognise inappropriate behaviour. During this process, one of the students who allegedly experienced sexual assault found the courage to inform her parents or guardians at home. Her family then contacted the police, bringing the allegations to the attention of the authorities. Police personnel, accompanied by the station officer, subsequently visited the school and began an inquiry into the matter.

What Police Have Said About the Case

During the preliminary inquiry, investigators reportedly found that the accused teacher allegedly called girl students into the staff room on the pretext of asking them to prepare tea. According to the police account, the teacher allegedly molested the students in the room and raped one of them. These details form part of the allegations being investigated and have not been presented here as independently established findings. The investigation will determine the circumstances of the reported incidents and examine the evidence collected by the authorities. The Gujarat teacher arrested in the case has been taken into police custody, DSP Goradiya said. Further investigation is underway.

POCSO Case Registered in Amreli District

A complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, commonly known as the POCSO case framework, was registered at Jafrabad Town Police Station on Friday. Police also registered rape-related charges in connection with the allegations. The law provides a legal framework for addressing sexual offences against children. Investigators will examine the complaint and other relevant evidence as the case proceeds. The incident has also brought attention to the importance of ensuring that students can report inappropriate conduct safely and receive support from trusted adults and authorities.

Why School Awareness Programmes Matter

The reported role of the Mission Smile awareness sessions highlights how age-appropriate education about personal safety can help children recognise inappropriate behaviour and seek assistance. Such programmes can give students the language and confidence needed to speak with parents, guardians, teachers or police when they feel unsafe.
