With Hike For Government Staff, AAP Kickstarts Punjab Poll Campaign

The Aam Aadmi Party is preparing to formally begin its campaign for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann scheduled to lead the initial programme in Ludhiana. The move comes shortly after the state government announced additional financial relief for government employees and pensioners. The timing is significant because the government has recently reached an understanding with employee and pensioner organisations after weeks of disagreement over several service-related demands. The state government announced an eight percentage-point increase in dearness allowance, to be released in two instalments, with the revised benefit scheduled to reflect from October. The political outreach will also come against the backdrop of the BJP beginning its own statewide campaign focused on the issue of drugs. This means both parties are beginning visible ground-level activity well ahead of the next Assembly election.

Bhagwant Mann To Lead AAP Campaign Launch In Ludhiana

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is expected to formally launch the party's campaign activities in Ludhiana. Senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia has said the programme will mark the beginning of a wider statewide outreach by the party. The campaign is expected to focus on the work and decisions of the Punjab government while taking the party's message directly to voters. AAP is also preparing to strengthen its organisational network at the booth level as the election approaches. The party's latest political programme comes after the Punjab government announced the DA increase for employees and pensioners. The decision followed a meeting between Mann and representatives of employee and pensioner organisations.

DA Hike Gives Government Employees A Major Election Issue

Government employees and pensioners represent an important section of Punjab's electorate, making the recent decision politically relevant as the parties begin preparing for the 2027 contest. The government has also announced regular monthly meetings with employee representatives to discuss genuine service-related concerns. Other issues raised by employees, including long-pending demands related to pension and service conditions, are expected to remain part of discussions between the government and employee organisations. For AAP, the latest announcement provides an opportunity to highlight its engagement with employees and the measures announced after negotiations. At the same time, employee groups have continued to raise concerns about outstanding demands and earlier dues, meaning the broader issue is likely to remain part of political discussions.

Statewide Door-To-Door Campaign From September 20

AAP has also announced a major door-to-door outreach programme across Punjab from September 20. Around 2.68 lakh booth committee members are expected to visit households as part of the exercise and communicate the work carried out by the Mann government. Manish Sisodia announced the campaign and said that Bhagwant Mann would personally participate in the door-to-door programme in Dhuri, his Assembly constituency. The programme is not limited to public meetings. The party is also planning a membership drive, linking its electoral outreach with an effort to expand and strengthen its grassroots organisation. The large-scale household contact programme is expected to give AAP an opportunity to speak directly with voters across different parts of Punjab while collecting feedback on local issues.

BJP's Anti-Drug Campaign Adds Another Political Dimension

AAP's campaign preparations come at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party has also intensified its activities in Punjab. On September 18, BJP national president Nitin Nabin flagged off the first of the party's statewide anti-drug yatras from Madhopur in Pathankot district. The BJP has planned four routes covering Punjab's 117 Assembly constituencies, with the combined campaign expected to cover around 4,000 kilometres. The BJP has positioned the drug issue as a central theme of its early campaign activity. The party's programme is scheduled to continue for 13 days, with the campaign expected to culminate in Jalandhar later in September. This parallel mobilisation means that the state's political parties are already taking their campaigns beyond traditional party meetings and into large-scale public and grassroots programmes.

AAP Focuses On Government Record And Organisation

The AAP's strategy combines two major elements: highlighting the government's record and strengthening its organisation at the grassroots. The party is expected to use its door-to-door programme to communicate information about government schemes, administrative decisions and other initiatives. The membership drive will simultaneously focus on increasing the party's organisational reach. The latest Punjab election 2027 preparations also bring attention to the political importance of government employees, pensioners and other organised groups whose demands have been a regular part of state politics. The recently announced Punjab DA hike is therefore likely to remain an important part of the government's public messaging, while employees' unresolved demands could continue to feature in discussions around the state administration.

Punjab Political Campaign Enters An Active Phase

The developments indicate that political activity in Punjab is moving into a more visible phase ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. AAP's AAP Punjab campaign is beginning with a combination of leadership programmes, household outreach and organisational expansion. The party is also expected to present the work of the Bhagwant Mann government as a central part of its campaign communication. At the same time, the BJP is building its early campaign around the drug issue through its statewide yatra. These separate approaches show how different parties are choosing different themes as they begin connecting with voters. The focus on employees has also brought Punjab government employees and pensioners into the political conversation, particularly after the latest DA announcement. The coming months are likely to see more public programmes, organisational activities and issue-based campaigns as parties prepare for the next Assembly election.

What Is AAP's Punjab Election Campaign?

AAP has begun its grassroots preparations for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections with a statewide door-to-door outreach programme, booth-level mobilisation and a membership drive. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to participate in the campaign in Dhuri.

Why Is The DA Hike Important In Punjab?

The Punjab government announced an eight percentage-point increase in dearness allowance for employees and pensioners following discussions with their representatives. The decision comes after a period of disagreement over DA dues and other service-related demands.
