Madhya Pradesh Monsoon Advances Rapidly, IMD Issues Orange Alert for Heavy Rain in Several Districts

Bhopal: The southwest monsoon is continuing its rapid advance across Madhya Pradesh and is expected to reach the Ujjain and Gwalior-Chambal divisions on Wednesday, bringing widespread rainfall to more parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Orange and Yellow alerts for several districts as heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over the next 24 hours.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Normal Life

Several districts in the Sagar and Bhopal divisions received heavy rainfall on Tuesday, causing waterlogging and disrupting daily life. In Indore and Mhow, many roads were submerged after continuous rain, leaving several vehicles stranded in flooded areas. Traffic movement slowed significantly as water accumulated on major roads and low-lying localities.

In Sehore district, continuous rainfall created flood-like conditions. Water entered residential colonies, affecting homes and daily activities. Local authorities remained on alert as rain continued across the district.

IMD Issues Orange Alert

According to the India Meteorological Department, weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement of the southwest monsoon across Madhya Pradesh.

An Orange Alert has been issued for the following districts:

  • Harda
  • Narmadapuram
  • Raisen
  • Chhindwara
  • Pandhurna
  • Balaghat

These districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next 24 hours.

Yellow Alert for Seven Districts

The IMD has also issued a Yellow Alert for:

  • Ashoknagar
  • Dewas
  • Khandwa
  • Betul
  • Sagar
  • Mandla
  • Dindori

Residents in these areas may experience moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning.

Rain Forecast for More Than 40 Districts

The weather department has forecast thunderstorms and rain in more than 40 districts, including Bhopal, Indore, and Ujjain. Authorities have advised people to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, stay away from flooded roads, and follow weather advisories issued by local administrations.

Monsoon to Benefit Agriculture

The advancing monsoon is expected to provide much-needed rainfall for kharif crops and improve water availability across the state. However, officials have urged residents living in low-lying areas to remain cautious as continuous rainfall may lead to waterlogging, flash floods, and traffic disruptions.

With the monsoon gaining strength, rainfall activity is likely to continue across large parts of Madhya Pradesh over the coming days, bringing relief from the summer heat while increasing the risk of rain-related incidents in vulnerable areas.
