Farmers associated with the Desh Bachao Morcha (DBM) were stopped by police at the Punjab-Haryana border while travelling to New Delhi to participate in a protest against the proposed India-U.S. trade deal. Security personnel prevented farmers from crossing at the Shambhu-Ambala and Khanauri-Jind border points as authorities stepped up security arrangements.

The demonstration was organised to oppose the proposed trade agreement and other Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), which farmer groups believe could affect the country's agricultural sector.

Police Tighten Security Along Border Routes

Police deployed barricades and additional security personnel at major entry points connecting Punjab and Haryana to prevent protesters from moving towards the national capital. A traffic advisory was also issued, with commuters advised to use alternative routes due to restrictions at the border.

Authorities monitored the situation to maintain law and order and minimise traffic disruptions.

Farmers Continue March on Foot

After buses, tractors, and other vehicles were stopped, several farmers from Haryana continued their journey towards Delhi on foot. Protesters said they remained committed to participating in the rally despite restrictions imposed along the route.

Farmer leaders reiterated their opposition to the proposed India-U.S. trade agreement and demanded that the government protect the interests of Indian farmers during trade negotiations.
