BCCI has started preparing a detailed roadmap for the Indian men’s cricket team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. The board discussed the team’s future plans during its meeting on September 3, with a strong focus on building the right squad and team combination.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the board wants India to have its best possible team combination ready by October-November 2027. The planning comes after India faced disappointing results on recent tours of Ireland and England.

Recent Performances Under Review

India’s performances in overseas conditions were also discussed during the meeting. The team lost six T20I matches and two ODIs across the Ireland and England tours.

Saikia said the board wanted to understand the reasons behind these results and identify areas that need improvement before future overseas assignments.

The upcoming SENA tours are expected to play an important role in India's preparation. SENA refers to South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia, where playing conditions can be challenging for visiting teams.

Core Squad to Be Built Before World Cup

BCCI is looking to establish a strong core group well before the 2027 World Cup. The team management will have time to assess players, test different combinations and identify the strongest options for the tournament.
