Mumbai-based model and actor Rhiya Ahir, who gained national attention after standing in front of a police van during student protests over the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's assurance of tougher action against examination fraud.

Speaking after the Prime Minister's video message, Ahir said students wanted to see the government's promises translated into concrete action.

"To say is one thing, but for it to actually happen is another," she said.

Questions Over Previous Paper Leak Cases

Ahir expressed hope that the proposed legal reforms would be implemented effectively, referring to previous paper leak investigations.

She said students want to see strict action against those responsible and added that confidence in the examination system would depend on the government's ability to deliver on its commitments.

Responding to the proposal for fast-track courts, she said people now expect visible results rather than announcements.

Rejects Claims of Seeking Publicity

The 27-year-old model dismissed suggestions that her participation in the protests was politically motivated or intended to gain attention.

She said she had covered her face with a hoodie and cap during the demonstration and insisted that her involvement was driven by concern for students.

PM Modi Announces Tougher Measures

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the Centre is preparing a bill to strengthen action against paper leaks.

According to the Prime Minister, the proposed legislation will include fast-track courts, stricter punishments and stronger legal provisions against examination fraud. The bill is expected to be introduced in Parliament during the Monsoon Session.

Sonam Wangchuk Ends Hunger Strike

The government's announcement came shortly before activist Sonam Wangchuk ended his 26-day hunger strike after receiving assurances from Union ministers regarding parliamentary discussions on examination reforms, compensation for affected families and protection for peaceful protesters.
