Harsimrat Kaur Badal Hints at Possible SAD-BJP Alliance Ahead of Punjab Polls

Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has hinted at a possible political alliance between the SAD and BJP ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Speaking at a rally in Sangrur, Harsimrat said that if an alliance takes shape, people would soon know what is going to happen. Her remarks came days after her husband and SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi.

The developments have fueled speculation about a possible return of the political partnership between the two parties.

‘If Alliances Happen, People Will Soon Find Out’

Addressing supporters in Sangrur, Harsimrat said people would soon learn about any political arrangement if alliances were formed.

She also spoke about agreements with the Centre and linked such arrangements with development and progress in Punjab.

She called for renewed efforts to build a foundation for development in the state, saying such cooperation should ultimately benefit Punjab and its people.

SAD and BJP Previously Fought Elections Together

SAD and BJP had shared power in Punjab and contested several elections together for decades before their relationship ended in 2020.

Following the split, BJP began strengthening its independent organisational structure in Punjab and contested subsequent elections separately.

A renewed alliance would therefore represent a significant shift in the political landscape of the state.

SAD is seeking to rebuild its support among its traditional rural and Sikh voter base, while BJP has been working to expand its presence beyond its traditional urban support.

Harsimrat Kaur Targets AAP Government

Harsimrat also criticised the AAP government in Punjab during the rally.

She appealed to people to end what she described as “remote control rule” from Delhi and called for greater political control from within Punjab.

She also referred to the recent attack on Sukhbir Singh Badal in Nanded, Maharashtra, and said her husband would not be intimidated by those responsible.

Harsimrat accused what she called “divisive forces” of harming Punjab and damaging the future of its youth.

She also questioned the circumstances surrounding attacks on Sukhbir Singh Badal and alleged that those responsible were acting as supporters of political governments.

Alliance Could Reshape Punjab Politics

A possible SAD-BJP partnership could have a significant impact on the political contest ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Both parties have experienced major changes in their political strategies since their separation. SAD is attempting to regain its traditional support base, while BJP is looking to strengthen its position across the state.

Harsimrat's latest remarks, along with the meeting between Sukhbir Singh Badal and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have increased speculation about whether the two parties could once again work together.

No formal alliance announcement has been made so far, but the statements have added to expectations of possible political discussions between SAD and BJP.
