Massive Fire Breaks Out at Tyre Factory in Firozabad, No Casualties Reported

Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh witnessed a major industrial fire on Sunday afternoon when a factory involved in extracting oil from old tyres caught fire. The blaze quickly intensified because of the large quantity of tyres and combustible material stored inside the premises. The flames reportedly rose around 30 to 40 feet into the air, while a thick column of smoke could be seen from nearly 5 kilometres away. The incident created panic in the surrounding area as the fire spread rapidly across the factory premises. The incident took place at around 3pm in Uramura Kirar village, located around 25 kilometres from the Firozabad district headquarters.

Around 30 Workers Escaped From the Factory

Around 30 workers were reportedly present inside the factory when the fire started. As the flames grew rapidly, the workers managed to get out of the premises. There were no casualties reported in the incident, according to Chief Fire Officer Satyendra Pandey. However, the fire caused extensive damage to the stock of old tyres kept at the site. Around 60 tonnes of tyres were destroyed in the blaze, while officials were yet to complete an assessment of the overall financial loss. The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with factories where large quantities of combustible waste and industrial material are stored.

Thick Smoke Made Breathing Difficult

One of the biggest challenges faced by emergency personnel was the dense smoke generated by the burning tyres and oil. The smoke spread across the surrounding area, making breathing difficult. Firefighters had to use protective masks while working to bring the situation under control. Police also moved quickly to restrict access to the area. Barricades were placed around the factory to prevent local residents and other people from approaching the site. Nearby areas were cleared as a precaution because of the intensity of the fire and the heavy smoke.

12 Fire Tenders Used to Control the Blaze

Firefighters launched an immediate operation to prevent the flames from spreading further. Around 12 fire tenders were involved in the firefighting operation. The blaze remained active for approximately two and a half hours before firefighters were able to bring it under control. Three JCB machines were also brought in to remove tyres from the factory premises and nearby areas. The move was aimed at creating a gap between the burning material and other stocks that could potentially catch fire. Officials were particularly concerned about a large stock of tyres stored at another location inside the factory area.

Hundreds of Tonnes of Tyres Were Stored Nearby

The factory occupies around five bighas of land and has reportedly been operating for about five years. A major concern during the firefighting operation was the presence of approximately 300 tonnes of tyres stored around 500 metres from the section where the fire initially broke out. Officials and workers focused on preventing the flames from reaching this stock because a fire involving such a large quantity of tyres could have significantly increased the scale of the incident. The factory was located around 600 metres from Shikohabad village, adding to concerns about the possible spread of smoke and flames toward populated areas.

Fire Started in the Section Where Tyres Were Burned for Oil

According to information provided by the Chief Fire Officer, the fire began in a tin-covered section of the factory where tyres were being processed to extract oil. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established. An initial possibility being examined is that a spark generated while tyres were being processed may have triggered the blaze. Officials stressed that the investigation into the cause is still underway. The factory's water pump was also reported to be non-functional at the time of the incident, creating an additional challenge for firefighting teams.

Previous Fire Raises Questions Over Safety Arrangements

The latest Firozabad tyre factory fire has also raised concerns because local residents reportedly said a similar major fire had occurred at the same factory in 2025. The recurrence of a serious fire at a facility handling large quantities of old tyres and combustible material has put attention on the fire safety arrangements at the premises. However, officials have not yet announced a final finding regarding whether any specific safety violation caused the latest incident. The immediate priority remained preventing the blaze from spreading and ensuring the safety of workers and people living nearby.

What Happens to the Oil Extracted From Tyres?

The factory reportedly processes old tyres to extract oil. According to the information provided by officials, the oil produced through this process is sent outside the factory and is used in road-related work. This means the facility handles both large quantities of old tyres and an oil-based industrial output. The combination of tyres, oil and other combustible materials made the fire particularly difficult to control and contributed to the intensity of the flames and smoke.

Investigation Underway Into the Cause

Fire officials and police are examining how the fire started and whether any equipment malfunction or operational activity played a role. Chief Fire Officer Satyendra Pandey said the reason for the fire was not immediately clear. Officials were also dealing with the damaged water pump at the location while fighting the blaze. For now, the authorities have confirmed that there was no reported loss of life. A detailed assessment of property and material damage is expected after the site is fully examined.

Key Details of the Firozabad Fire

The incident occurred at an old-tyre processing factory in Uramura Kirar village. Flames reportedly reached 30 to 40 feet, while smoke could be seen from several kilometres away. Around 30 workers were inside when the fire broke out, but all were reported to have escaped safely. Approximately 60 tonnes of tyres were destroyed.
