Red Warning in Delhi as IMD Forecasts Heavy Rain, Orange Alerts Issued Across Several States

India Meteorological Department has issued a red warning for all 11 districts of Delhi, forecasting thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall. The alert was issued in the morning and was valid for the following three hours.

According to the weather warning, Delhi could experience heavy rain exceeding 15 mm per hour, along with winds reaching around 60 kmph. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as severe weather conditions could affect road travel and daily activities.

All districts of the national capital are covered by the red warning, including Central Delhi, East Delhi, New Delhi, North Delhi, North East Delhi, North West Delhi, Shahdara, South Delhi, South East Delhi, South West Delhi and West Delhi.

Orange Alert for Uttar Pradesh

Several districts of Uttar Pradesh have been placed under an orange warning for thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and moderate rainfall.

The affected areas include Ambedkar Nagar, Amethi, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Baghpat, Ballia, Banda, Basti, Chandauli, Chitrakoot, Deoria, Ghazipur, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Hamirpur, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Kushinagar, Mahoba, Mau, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli, Sultanpur and Varanasi.

Winds could reach speeds of 40 to 60 kmph in these areas, while rainfall could range between 5 and 15 mm per hour.

Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand Also on Alert

Orange warnings have also been issued for several districts of Kerala. Kannur, Kasaragod, Kozhikode, Lakshadweep, Malappuram, Thrissur and Wayanad are among the areas covered by the alert.

In Madhya Pradesh, districts including Chhatarpur, Datia, Gwalior, Niwari, Panna, Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Singrauli and Tikamgarh are under an orange warning.

Parts of Uttarakhand, including Bageshwar, Champawat, Dehradun, Pithoragarh and Tehri Garhwal, have also been warned of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.

Haryana Districts Also Face Severe Weather

In Haryana, Panipat and Sonipat have been placed under an orange warning.

Residents in these areas may experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds and moderate rainfall. Authorities have urged people to remain alert and follow local weather advisories.

IMD Issues Safety Advisory

Residents in areas covered by severe weather warnings have been advised to take necessary precautions. People should avoid taking shelter under trees or weak structures during thunderstorms.

Residents have also been advised to check road and traffic conditions before travelling and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Drivers should remain particularly cautious because heavy rainfall can reduce visibility and cause waterlogging on roads.

Heavy Rain Previously Disrupted Delhi-NCR

Latest warnings come after heavy showers affected Delhi and neighbouring parts of the National Capital Region. Several areas experienced waterlogging, causing difficulties for commuters and slowing traffic movement.

Rain also affected flight operations at the capital's airport, with adverse weather conditions creating challenges for air passengers.

Further spells of heavy rain could create additional problems for traffic, flights and daily activities if rainfall intensifies across the region.

Weather Alert Covers Multiple Regions

IMD's latest warnings indicate that several parts of northern and southern India are facing thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and moderate to heavy rainfall.
