Cochin Airport Rejects SpiceJet’s Bad Weather Claim, Calls It Misinformation

Cochin International Airport has rejected SpiceJet’s claim that bad weather in Kochi disrupted its flight operations, saying there were no adverse weather conditions that could have caused the reported disruptions.

SpiceJet said on Saturday that its flights to and from Cochin airport had been affected by bad weather. The statement prompted airport authorities to issue a clarification through social media.

Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) described the airline’s communication as “misinformation” and said SpiceJet had been facing continuing operational problems affecting its services, including flights from Kochi.

Airport Says No Adverse Weather

CIAL said weather conditions at Kochi did not warrant the disruption mentioned by SpiceJet.

According to the airport authorities, no other airline operating from Kochi had reported similar cancellations during the same period because of weather conditions.

The airport said SpiceJet's ongoing operational problems had caused considerable inconvenience and uncertainty for passengers.

CIAL also said concerns raised by passengers had not been adequately addressed by the airline and that the situation had continued to worsen over the previous few days.

Passengers Advised to Check Flight Status

Amid the disruption, CIAL advised passengers who have booked SpiceJet flights to verify their flight status directly with the airline before travelling to the airport.

The airport said it had made efforts to assist passengers affected by the operational issues and provide necessary support.

The clarification comes as passengers face uncertainty over flight schedules and cancellations involving SpiceJet services operating through Kochi.

Dispute Over Cause of Disruptions

The disagreement between SpiceJet and CIAL centres on the reason for the flight disruptions.

While the airline attributed the impact on its Kochi services to bad weather, the airport authorities said conditions at the airport were not severe enough to cause the disruption.

CIAL also pointed out that other airlines operating from Kochi had not reported weather-related cancellations during the same period.

The airport's statement places greater attention on SpiceJet's operational situation and its handling of passenger concerns.

Passenger Advisory

With the situation continuing, passengers travelling on SpiceJet flights from Kochi have been advised to confirm their latest flight status before leaving for the airport.

The development could add to concerns among passengers already affected by cancellations or schedule changes as the airline and airport authorities provide different explanations for the disruption.

CIAL said it would continue providing necessary assistance to affected passengers while urging travellers to obtain updated information directly from SpiceJet.
