Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh, marking a major milestone in the state's aviation infrastructure. During his visit, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to dedicate development projects worth more than ₹17,900 crore to the nation.

He was welcomed at the airport by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

Greenfield Airport Built Under PPP Model

According to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the Greenfield airport has been developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at a cost of over ₹5,640 crore.

The airport has the capacity to handle six million passengers annually and has been designed to offer a modern, efficient, and seamless travel experience while supporting future aviation growth.

Advanced Technology Enhances Operations

The new airport is equipped with several advanced technologies aimed at improving passenger convenience and operational efficiency.

• Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled systems
• Building Information Modelling (BIM)
• Airside 4.0 technology
• Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC)
• Biometric passenger processing
• Automated baggage handling systems
• Intelligent operational monitoring

These systems are expected to strengthen airport safety, streamline passenger movement, and optimize resource management.

Focus on Sustainability

The airport incorporates multiple environmentally friendly features, including:

• 5 MW solar power plant
• Energy-efficient HVAC systems
• LED lighting
• Rainwater harvesting
• Smart building management systems
• Waste management facilities
• Electric vehicle charging infrastructure
• Environmental monitoring systems

The passenger terminal has also been designed in line with Green Building Standards and is registered with the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Architecture Inspired by Andhra Pradesh's Heritage

The airport's design reflects the cultural identity of Andhra Pradesh. According to the PMO, the terminal roof is inspired by traditional Chuttilu cottages and the scenic landscape of the Araku Valley.

Its flowing architectural form also symbolizes the movement of a flying fish, blending regional heritage with contemporary airport design.

Boost for Tourism, Trade and Connectivity

The PMO said the airport is expected to significantly improve air connectivity while promoting tourism, trade, investment, and employment opportunities across Andhra Pradesh.

After completing his Andhra Pradesh visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to travel to Mysuru, Karnataka, where he will inaugurate the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre – Viveka Smaraka at the Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama and address a public gathering.
