Unitree Humanoid Robot Maker Set for Blockbuster Shanghai Debut

Chinese robotics company Unitree is preparing for its Shanghai stock market debut after attracting record demand from retail investors and growing attention from global technology markets.

Chinese humanoid robot maker Unitree is heading toward a highly anticipated stock market debut in Shanghai, with investors expecting strong gains when the company’s shares begin trading.

Unitree has become one of China’s most prominent humanoid robotics companies, known for robots capable of walking, running, dancing and performing complex movements. Its upcoming listing has generated significant excitement among investors and technology enthusiasts.

Record Demand for Unitree IPO

Unitree’s initial public offering attracted extraordinary demand from retail investors. The IPO was reportedly oversubscribed more than 8,000 times, setting a record for Shanghai’s STAR Market, which focuses on technology and innovation companies.

The company priced its shares at 150.8 yuan and raised around 6.1 billion yuan, or approximately $905 million, by selling 10% of its expanded share capital.

Strong demand has continued outside China’s regulated stock market. Private trading platforms have indicated that investors expect Unitree shares to rise substantially once official trading begins.

Some private market estimates suggest the shares could nearly triple from their IPO price, while derivative contracts linked to Unitree’s stock have indicated the possibility of even larger gains.

Chinese media have also reported that some successful IPO subscribers were approached with offers of around 410 yuan per share, representing a significant premium over the original offering price.

Unitree Gains Global Attention

Unitree has attracted international attention through demonstrations of its humanoid robots performing activities such as running, dancing and martial arts.

The company competes with major robotics firms including Boston Dynamics and Tesla.

One of Unitree’s biggest advantages is that it has already achieved profitability. This distinguishes the company from many emerging humanoid robotics businesses that continue to spend heavily on research and development while working toward large-scale commercial applications.

Analysts have described Unitree’s public listing as an important development for China’s robotics industry because the company combines established sales, production scale and profitability.

Strong Interest in China’s Robotics Sector

Investor enthusiasm around Unitree also reflects China’s broader push to expand its robotics and artificial intelligence industries.

Beijing has identified advanced robotics as an important strategic technology and is encouraging domestic companies to develop products that can compete internationally.

Unitree founder Wang Xingxing has previously appeared alongside leading Chinese technology entrepreneurs at a meeting with President Xi Jinping.

The company has also attracted investment and support from major Chinese technology companies, including Tencent and Alibaba, while DeepSeek has also been reported among its backers.

Competition Continues to Grow

Unitree is entering a market that is becoming increasingly competitive.

Other Chinese robotics companies, including UBTech and Dobot, have already entered public markets in Hong Kong. Several other humanoid robotics firms are also preparing for potential listings.

Unitree is considered one of the world’s largest humanoid robot manufacturers by sales and is the first general-purpose robotics company of its kind to make a mainland Chinese stock market debut.

A strong performance could encourage further investment in China’s rapidly expanding robotics sector.

Analysts Warn of Risks

Despite the excitement, some analysts have warned that investor enthusiasm could push Unitree’s valuation beyond what its current business fundamentals can support.

Humanoid robotics remains an emerging industry, and companies still face challenges in finding large-scale commercial applications. Industrial use cases are developing, but widespread adoption has yet to be fully established.

Unitree also faces growing competition from both Chinese and international manufacturers. Potential restrictions on Chinese humanoid robots in the US market could create additional challenges for the company’s overseas expansion.

Still, a successful Shanghai debut would strengthen Unitree’s position in the global robotics industry and could provide another major boost to China’s technology stock market.

The company’s listing will also serve as an important test of investor confidence in humanoid robotics and whether the technology can develop from high-profile demonstrations into a large and profitable commercial industry.
