Amritsar Police Bust Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Network, Four Arrested with 10 Pistols

Amritsar Commissionerate Police have dismantled an alleged cross-border arms smuggling network and arrested four accused during a special operation. Police recovered 10 modern pistols and nine live cartridges, dealing a significant blow to an illegal weapons supply chain believed to be operating across the international border.

The arrests were made during an intelligence-based operation as part of Punjab Police's ongoing campaign against organised crime and cross-border smuggling.

Police Action Based on Intelligence Inputs

According to police officials, the operation was launched after receiving specific intelligence about illegal weapon movement in the region.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the accused were allegedly working under the direction of a foreign-based smuggler. The group is suspected of receiving consignments of illegal firearms from across the border and supplying them to criminal networks operating in different parts of Punjab.

Authorities believe the network had been functioning in an organised manner for a considerable period.

Weapons Seized During the Operation

Police recovered the following items from the accused:

  • 10 modern pistols
  • 9 live cartridges

Officials said the recovered firearms are high-capacity weapons. Forensic examination and technical analysis will now be carried out to determine their origin and whether they were used in any previous criminal cases.

Investigation Into the Smuggling Route

Security agencies are now investigating how the weapons entered India and which cross-border routes were used for smuggling.

Investigators are also trying to identify:

  • The foreign-based handler behind the network.
  • Local associates involved in transporting the weapons.
  • The number of previous consignments delivered.
  • Individuals or criminal groups that may have received the illegal firearms.

Police suspect the recovered weapons were intended for use in organised crime and other unlawful activities within Punjab.

FIRs Registered, More Arrests Possible

Police have registered FIRs at Chheharta and Maqboolpura police stations in Amritsar.

The four arrested suspects are being questioned to gather more information about the network and identify additional members involved in the operation.

Officials believe the investigation could lead to further arrests in the coming days.

Crackdown on Illegal Arms Networks Continues

Punjab Police said efforts are continuing to dismantle organised smuggling networks and strengthen border security.

Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against those involved in the illegal supply of weapons, while intelligence agencies continue working to prevent cross-border smuggling activities.
