President Says 25 Crore Indians Moved Out of Poverty in a Decade

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that 25 crore citizens have moved out of poverty over the last decade, calling it a major transformation in the country’s social landscape. Addressing a joint sitting of Parliament, she said the achievement reflects sustained efforts towards inclusive development and social justice.

The President said that the Constitution’s vision of equality and dignity for all citizens remains the guiding principle of governance. Referring to the ideals of Babasaheb Ambedkar, she stated that true social justice means ensuring that every citizen can exercise their rights without discrimination and with equal opportunity.

Highlighting key welfare initiatives, President Murmu said large scale housing construction for the poor, expansion of piped drinking water connections, LPG access under Ujjwala Yojana and direct benefit transfers have significantly improved living conditions across rural and urban India. She added that these measures have reduced vulnerability and provided long term stability to millions of families.

The President said that during the government’s current term, the campaign to empower the poor has gained further momentum. She stressed that transparency in delivery systems and technology driven governance have played a crucial role in ensuring benefits reach the intended beneficiaries.

Concluding her remarks on poverty alleviation, President Murmu said empowering the poorest sections of society strengthens the entire nation and accelerates India’s journey towards becoming a developed country.
