DBT Benefits Worth 6.75 Lakh Crore Delivered in One Year, President Says

President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that benefits worth more than 6.75 lakh crore rupees were transferred directly to beneficiaries in the last one year, marking a significant step towards transparent and accountable governance. Addressing a joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, the President said direct benefit transfer has become a cornerstone of public welfare delivery in the country.

The President said that institutional reforms backed by digital infrastructure have transformed how government schemes reach citizens. She noted that the expansion of direct transfers has reduced leakages, eliminated unnecessary intermediaries and ensured that welfare assistance reaches beneficiaries in a timely and efficient manner.

Highlighting the broader impact of DBT, President Murmu said transparent delivery systems strengthen public trust and improve the effectiveness of social welfare programmes. She said that technology driven governance has enabled accurate identification of beneficiaries, real time fund transfers and better monitoring of outcomes across states and sectors.

The President added that direct transfers have played a crucial role in supporting the poor, farmers, women and senior citizens, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty. She said the system has ensured dignity and autonomy for beneficiaries by allowing them to receive support directly into their bank accounts without dependence on intermediaries.

Referring to the use of taxpayers’ money, the President said every rupee saved from leakages has been redirected towards development and welfare. She added that efficient public spending not only improves service delivery but also strengthens the country’s economic foundation.

The President said transparency and honesty in systems are essential for building a corruption free governance framework. She stressed that such reforms are critical for India’s long term development goals and will continue to support inclusive growth as the country moves towards the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Concluding her remarks, President Murmu said clean governance, efficient systems and citizen centric delivery will remain central to India’s development journey, ensuring that growth benefits reach every section of society.
