India Criticizes China Over Support to Pakistan During Operation Sindoor

India has strongly criticized China over allegations that Beijing supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, a major Indian security operation aimed at targeting terror infrastructure across the border. The Indian government said that any country helping or protecting terror-linked activities risks damaging its international reputation and credibility.

The sharp response reflects growing tensions between India and China at a time when regional security concerns remain high in South Asia. Indian officials reportedly expressed concern that China’s actions and statements during the operation appeared to favor Pakistan despite India’s claims that the operation was focused on counterterrorism efforts.

Operation Sindoor was launched by Indian security forces after intelligence reports suggested increased terrorist activity and possible threats linked to groups operating from Pakistani territory. Indian officials described the mission as part of the country’s long-standing policy of taking strong action against terrorism and cross-border threats.

According to reports, India believes China indirectly supported Pakistan diplomatically during the operation by defending Islamabad at international forums and avoiding criticism of terror infrastructure allegedly operating from Pakistani soil. Indian officials argued that such support weakens global efforts against terrorism.

The Indian government also warned that countries which continue supporting or protecting terror-linked systems may face long-term damage to their global image. Officials stressed that fighting terrorism requires honest international cooperation and clear action against extremist networks.

The issue highlights the complicated relationship between India and China, two of Asia’s largest powers. Although both countries maintain major trade ties, political and military tensions have remained high in recent years because of border disputes, regional competition, and strategic disagreements.

Relations between New Delhi and Beijing worsened significantly after deadly clashes between soldiers in the Galwan Valley in 2020. Since then, both sides have increased military preparedness along the border while continuing diplomatic talks to avoid further escalation.

India has also repeatedly raised concerns about China’s close relationship with Pakistan. Beijing and Islamabad maintain strong economic, military, and strategic ties, including cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a major infrastructure project linked to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.

Indian officials have often argued that Pakistan has failed to fully dismantle terrorist groups operating within its territory. Pakistan, however, denies supporting terrorism and says it has also suffered greatly from extremist violence over the years.

China has usually called for dialogue and regional stability whenever tensions rise between India and Pakistan. However, Indian policymakers believe Beijing often takes positions that indirectly favor Pakistan in international discussions.

The latest criticism also comes during a period of growing geopolitical competition across Asia. India has been strengthening ties with countries such as the United States, Japan, Australia, and European nations as part of broader strategic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

Security experts say regional tensions involving India, China, and Pakistan remain sensitive because all three countries possess nuclear weapons and maintain large military forces. Even limited diplomatic disputes can therefore attract global attention.

The issue of terrorism continues to remain a major political and security concern for India. Successive Indian governments have promised strong action against cross-border militant activity and have repeatedly urged the international community to isolate groups linked to terrorism.

At the same time, experts believe maintaining diplomatic communication between India and China remains important for regional stability. Both countries are major economic powers, and prolonged tensions could affect trade, investment, and wider Asian security.

The current disagreement also shows how global politics is increasingly shaped by strategic alliances and regional influence. Countries often balance security concerns, diplomatic interests, and economic partnerships at the same time.

For India, the latest remarks send a clear political message that New Delhi expects stronger international support on counterterrorism issues. For China, the criticism adds another challenge to an already complicated relationship with its large neighbor.

As regional tensions continue, the coming months may become important in deciding whether diplomatic discussions can reduce friction or whether political mistrust between the two Asian powers will continue growing further.
