Varun Chakaravarthy Ruled Out of Afghanistan T20I Series Due to Injury

India spinner Varun Chakaravarthy will not play in the remaining matches of the Afghanistan T20I series after suffering an injury following the opening game in Delhi.

Chakaravarthy completed his full four-over spell in the first T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. India won the match comfortably and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. However, the spinner is now set to miss the second and third T20Is.

The exact nature and seriousness of the injury have not yet been confirmed. The setback comes after Chakaravarthy has faced several fitness issues over the past few months.

Spinner Has Faced Multiple Injury Setbacks

Chakaravarthy suffered a foot injury during IPL 2026 but continued playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. He later underwent rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The injury also kept him out of India’s T20I series against Ireland. He returned for the matches against England but was once again ruled out after the third game because of another injury.

His latest setback adds to India's concerns as the team prepares for the remaining Afghanistan matches and future T20 assignments.

Chakaravarthy Opens Up About Managing Injuries

Speaking after the first T20I, Chakaravarthy said injuries are common in professional sport and can happen when players push their bodies beyond their limits.

He explained that athletes sometimes need to step back, recover properly and return stronger instead of continuing to push through physical problems.

His comments came shortly before the latest injury was confirmed, making fitness management an important issue for the Indian spinner.

India Aim to Seal T20I Series in Delhi

India will face Afghanistan in the second T20I at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on September 15. The hosts can secure the three-match series with another victory.

Chakaravarthy's absence could lead India to make a change in their bowling combination. The team will look for another spinner or adjust its attack depending on the conditions in Delhi.

India's strong performance in the opening match gives the side confidence, but Afghanistan will look to respond in the second game and keep the series alive.
