Neeraj Chopra Set for Lausanne Diamond League Ahead of Asian Games 2026

India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is set to compete at the Lausanne Diamond League on August 21, marking his next major event ahead of the 2026 Asian Games.

The competition in Switzerland will feature some of the world's leading javelin throwers, providing Chopra with an important opportunity to assess his form before the continental championship.

Chopra Builds Momentum After Commonwealth Silver

Neeraj Chopra heads into the event after winning the silver medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a season-best throw of 85.89 metres.

The performance showed encouraging progress after the former Olympic champion dealt with back injury issues that limited his appearances earlier in the season.

Star-Studded Field Awaits

The Lausanne Diamond League will feature a highly competitive lineup, including:

  • Arshad Nadeem (Pakistan) – Olympic champion
  • Rumesh Pathirage (Sri Lanka) – Commonwealth Games champion and current world leader
  • Anderson Peters (Grenada) – Former world champion
  • Keshorn Walcott (Trinidad and Tobago) – World champion
  • Thomas Röhler (Germany) – Former Olympic champion
  • Jakub Vadlejch (Czech Republic) – Olympic silver medallist
  • Julian Weber (Germany)
  • Curtis Thompson (United States)
  • Simon Wieland (Switzerland)

The event is expected to be one of the strongest javelin competitions of the season.

Focus Shifts Toward Asian Games

Following Lausanne, Chopra is also expected to compete in the Zurich Diamond League before the Diamond League Final in Brussels.

The Indian athlete has said he is steadily regaining full fitness and expects further improvement before the Asian Games, scheduled to take place from September 19 to October 4 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Fitness Continues to Improve

Speaking after his Commonwealth Games silver medal, Chopra said he is gradually returning to peak condition and believes regular competition will help him improve further before the Asian Games.

His performances over the coming weeks will be closely watched as he aims to challenge for another major international title.
