India Beat Sri Lanka by 72 Runs to Win Record 8th Women’s Asia Cup

India secured a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup title after defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the 2026 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13. A strong batting performance followed by disciplined bowling helped India dominate the final and lift the trophy.

Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana Give India Strong Start

India were asked to bat first and opened with Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma. Both batters played an important role in setting up a big total for the Indian team.

Shafali Verma scored 68 runs, while Smriti Mandhana contributed 59 runs. Their partnership gave India the momentum needed to put pressure on Sri Lanka from the beginning.

Harmanpreet Kaur added 14 runs and Richa Ghosh scored 17. Gunalan Kamalini remained unbeaten on 15, while Deepti Sharma contributed five runs as India finished their innings on 183 runs.

Sri Lanka’s bowlers Mithali Ayodhya, Chamari Athapaththu and Chamudi Praboda picked up one wicket each.

Sri Lanka Struggle During 184-Run Chase

Sri Lanka needed 184 runs to win the Women’s Asia Cup final, but their batting lineup struggled against India’s bowling attack.

Chamari Athapaththu was Sri Lanka’s top scorer with 36 runs. Vishmi Gunaratne made 20, while Nilakshika Silva scored 22. Imesha Dulani and Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed four and nine runs respectively.

The middle and lower order could not build a strong partnership. Kavisha Dilhari scored seven, Hasini Perera made one and Kaushini Nuthyangana added nine runs.

Shree Charani Leads India’s Bowling Attack

Shree Charani produced one of the standout performances of the final, taking four wickets and putting Sri Lanka under constant pressure.

Deepti Sharma also played a key role with three wickets. Kranti Gaud, Shafali Verma and Prema Rawat picked up one wicket each.

India’s bowlers continued taking wickets at regular intervals, preventing Sri Lanka from developing any meaningful momentum during the chase.

India Clinch Historic Eighth Asia Cup Title

Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 111 runs, giving India a 72-run victory in the final.

The result gave India their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title, strengthening their position as the most successful team in the tournament’s history. The combination of Mandhana and Shafali’s batting and Shree Charani and Deepti Sharma’s bowling proved decisive in Dubai.

India’s comprehensive performance in the final also underlined the team’s depth across both batting and bowling departments. The victory adds another major achievement to Indian women’s cricket and gives the team a memorable Asia Cup campaign in 2026.
