England and India Make History as Lord’s Hosts First Women’s Test Match

England and India are set to make history as they compete in the first-ever women's Test match at Lord's Cricket Ground, marking a landmark moment for women's cricket at one of the sport's most iconic venues.

The four-day Test begins on July 10 and comes 50 years after the first women's international match was played at Lord's in 1976, highlighting the continued growth of the women's game.

Lord's Reaches Another Historic Milestone

Known as the "Home of Cricket" since 1814, Lord's has hosted 150 men's Test matches, but this will be the first time the historic ground stages a women's Test.

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), which owns Lord's, only opened its membership and pavilion to women in 1999, making this match another significant chapter in the venue's history.

More than 30,000 tickets have been sold, reflecting growing public support for women's international cricket.

England Captain Calls the Occasion a Dream Come True

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt described the opportunity to play at Lord's as a dream fulfilled.

She said representing England at the historic venue is a privilege and believes the team has earned the opportunity through the continued growth of women's cricket.

A special opening ceremony will feature around 50 former and current England women's cricketers, celebrating five decades since the first women's international match at the ground.

Tammy Beaumont to Play Final International Match

The Test will also mark the international farewell of England batter Tammy Beaumont, who recently announced her retirement after missing selection for the upcoming Women's World Cup squad.

Beaumont ends an international career spanning more than a decade and is expected to receive a special tribute during the historic fixture.

England and India Renew Their Test Rivalry

England and India have played 15 women's Test matches against each other, with 11 ending in draws and England winning only one.

Their previous Test meeting in England took place in 2021, making this the first home Test between the two sides in five years.

The match is expected to showcase the continued rise of women's cricket while adding another historic milestone to Lord's rich sporting legacy.
