Chaminda Vaas Urges Patience With Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Says Young Batter Will Shine for India

Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas has thrown his support behind India's teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, saying the youngster possesses all the qualities needed to become a successful international cricketer. Vaas believes that the 15-year-old should be allowed to develop naturally without the burden of excessive expectations.

Speaking while serving as the mentor of Palamuru Strikers in the Telangana T20 League, Vaas said India has consistently produced world-class young cricketers, and Vaibhav has the potential to become another major success story if given the right environment.

'Don't Put Pressure on Him,' Says Vaas

Vaas emphasized that young players require time to mature both technically and mentally before being expected to perform consistently at the highest level.

"India has produced outstanding young cricketers over the years. Vaibhav is still very young and needs time to grow as a player. I am confident he will get opportunities to represent India, establish himself in the national team, and perform exceptionally well. The only request is that people should not put unnecessary pressure on him," Vaas said.

According to the former Sri Lankan pacer, patience and proper guidance are key factors in shaping the careers of talented youngsters.

Rise to Stardom Through IPL

Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been one of the biggest young stars in Indian cricket since making his IPL debut in 2025. His fearless batting style attracted widespread attention after he scored a century during his debut IPL season.

The teenager continued his impressive form while representing India A and the India Under-19 team, delivering consistent performances across formats.

His remarkable progress continued in IPL 2026, where he enjoyed a sensational campaign for Rajasthan Royals, scoring 776 runs and finishing as the tournament's Orange Cap winner. His outstanding performances earned him a place in India's T20 squad, making him one of the country's most exciting emerging talents.

Telangana T20 League Helping Young Players

Vaas also praised the Telangana T20 League, describing it as an excellent platform for identifying and nurturing future cricket stars.

He said tournaments like these provide young players with valuable match experience and exposure against quality opposition.

"The Hyderabad Cricket Association deserves credit for launching the Telangana T20 League. Every team has talented young players. Although our team, Palamuru Strikers, hasn't achieved the results we hoped for, several youngsters have impressed with their performances," he said.

India's Domestic Structure Producing Future Stars

Comparing India's domestic cricket structure with other countries, Vaas said India's system offers exceptional opportunities for young players to develop.

He noted that nearly every state organizes competitive T20 tournaments, giving emerging cricketers regular exposure before progressing to the IPL and eventually the Indian national team.

According to Vaas, this strong domestic ecosystem has played a crucial role in producing a steady pipeline of talented players capable of succeeding at the highest level.
