JCD Prabhakar, a senior legislator from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been elected unopposed as the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly. His appointment marks an important moment for the newly formed government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, popularly known as Vijay.

Prabhakar’s election took place during the first major Assembly session after the recent Tamil Nadu elections, which brought major political change to the state. TVK emerged as the leading party and formed the government with support from allies and smaller parties.
