Uttarakhand Innovator Test-Flies India’s Electric Flying Car Prototype

Uttarakhand innovator Ravi Tamta has successfully test-flown HAPIDA SKYNeX, a single-seater electric personal flying vehicle developed through his startup, Hapida Sky Private Limited. The prototype flight took place in Almora and has attracted widespread attention after videos of the demonstration surfaced on social media.

Electric Flying Vehicle Developed in Almora

Tamta, who comes from Kaflikhan village in Almora district, has worked for years on developing the flying vehicle. HAPIDA SKYNeX uses modified and upgraded drone technology and is designed to carry a single passenger.

The successful demonstration marks an important stage in the development of the indigenous flying vehicle, although the project remains at the prototype stage. Further testing, safety validation and regulatory approvals would be required before commercial operations could begin.

Fully Electric Technology

HAPIDA SKYNeX has been designed around an electric propulsion system rather than conventional aviation fuel. The concept is aimed at creating a cleaner form of personal aerial transportation, with zero tailpipe emissions during operation.

Electric personal aircraft are attracting increasing attention as developers explore alternatives to conventional road transportation and traditional fuel-powered aviation.

Test Flight Videos Go Viral

Videos showing the HAPIDA SKYNeX prototype taking off and flying at an open ground in Almora have spread across social media, generating interest in Tamta's work.

The demonstration has also highlighted how innovators outside India's major technology hubs are experimenting with advanced transportation technologies.

Why Uttarakhand Could Benefit

Uttarakhand's mountainous terrain presents major transportation challenges, with steep roads, long travel routes and areas where road connectivity can be disrupted.

Electric aerial mobility could eventually have potential applications in remote connectivity, emergency response and tourism. However, these possibilities remain dependent on further technological development and regulatory approval.

Prototype Still Needs Extensive Testing

Successful take-off and flight do not mean the vehicle is ready for commercial use. HAPIDA SKYNeX would need extensive testing covering flight stability, battery performance, structural safety, passenger protection, navigation and emergency systems.

Regulatory clearance would also be necessary before the vehicle could be routinely operated or sold for public use.

India’s Future Mobility Push

Ravi Tamta's achievement adds to India's growing interest in electric and advanced air mobility technologies. While HAPIDA SKYNeX is still an experimental prototype, its successful test flight provides a glimpse into how personal aerial transportation could evolve in the future.
