Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at the Peace Park in Victoria and offered prayers at the historic Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple during his official visit to Seychelles. The visit highlighted the strong cultural, spiritual, and people-to-people ties between India and the island nation.

The Prime Minister's engagements formed part of his state visit, which also included participation as the Guest of Honour at Seychelles' Golden Jubilee Independence Day celebrations.

Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Peace Park

Prime Minister Modi visited the Peace Park in Victoria, where he paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi.

In a message shared on social media, he said Gandhi's ideals continue to inspire generations and unite people in the pursuit of peace, justice, and human dignity.

The Peace Park features a statue of Mahatma Gandhi alongside other internationally respected leaders, symbolizing peace, harmony, and shared human values.

Prayers at Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple

The Prime Minister also visited the Arulmigu Navasakthi Vinayagar Temple, one of the most prominent Hindu temples in Seychelles.

During the visit, he offered prayers and wished for wisdom, strength, and prosperity for everyone.

He also appreciated the Seychelles Hindu Kovil Sangam for preserving Indian traditions and promoting Indian culture and spirituality among the local community.

The temple remains an important religious and cultural center for people of Indian origin living in Seychelles.

Strengthening India–Seychelles Cultural Relations

The temple visit reflected the deep historical and cultural relationship shared by India and Seychelles.

The island nation has a vibrant Indian-origin community that continues to preserve its traditions while contributing to Seychelles' development.

People-to-people connections, cultural exchanges, education, and religious heritage remain important pillars of bilateral relations.

Participation in Seychelles National Day

Earlier during the visit, Prime Minister Modi attended the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations of Seychelles as the Guest of Honour.

He congratulated the people of Seychelles on completing 50 years of independence and reaffirmed India's commitment to supporting the country's development journey.

The Prime Minister thanked President Dr. Patrick Herminie, the government, and the people of Seychelles for inviting him to participate in the historic celebrations.

Defence Cooperation on Display

The celebrations also highlighted the close defence partnership between India and Seychelles.

Contingents from the Assam Regiment of the Indian Army and the Indian Navy participated in the National Day parade, demonstrating the growing strategic cooperation between the two nations.

The participation reflected the long-standing friendship and defence collaboration shared by both countries.
