PM Modi Congratulates Suvendu Adhikari After Taking Oath as West Bengal Chief Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Suvendu Adhikari after he took oath as the new Chief Minister of West Bengal, marking a historic political moment in the state.

Suvendu Adhikari officially became the first Bharatiya Janata Party leader to serve as Chief Minister of West Bengal after the BJP secured a major victory in the 2026 Assembly elections. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Kolkata and was attended by several senior BJP leaders, party workers, and supporters.

In his congratulatory message, Prime Minister Modi praised Suvendu Adhikari as a leader who understands the hopes and concerns of the people. He expressed confidence that the new government would work toward the development and progress of West Bengal.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the ministers who took oath along with Adhikari. He said the new leadership team would play an important role in strengthening governance and improving the state’s future.

The BJP’s victory in West Bengal is being seen as one of the biggest political developments in recent years. The party ended the long rule of the Trinamool Congress, which had governed the state for around 15 years under Mamata Banerjee.

Suvendu Adhikari’s rise to power has attracted national attention because he was once a senior leader in the Trinamool Congress before joining the BJP in 2020. Over the past few years, he became one of the BJP’s strongest leaders in West Bengal and played a major role in increasing the party’s support across the state.

The oath-taking ceremony was held in Kolkata with strong security arrangements in place. Several senior leaders from the BJP and the National Democratic Alliance attended the event, describing it as the beginning of a “new political era” in West Bengal.

Political analysts say the BJP’s victory is especially important because West Bengal has traditionally been dominated by regional political parties. The result has significantly increased the BJP’s political influence in eastern India.

During the election campaign, the BJP focused heavily on issues such as development, border security, corruption, law and order, and job creation. The party promised to improve infrastructure, attract investment, and strengthen governance in the state.

Supporters of the BJP celebrated the swearing-in ceremony across different parts of West Bengal. Many party workers described the moment as historic because it was the first time the BJP formed a government in the state.

At the same time, opposition parties warned that the new administration will face major challenges, including maintaining social harmony, improving the economy, and handling political tensions after a highly competitive election campaign.

Experts believe the new government will now face pressure to deliver quick results and fulfill promises made during the elections. Issues such as employment, industry growth, rural development, and public services are expected to become major priorities.

The BJP leadership has also spoken about building “Sonar Bangla,” or a prosperous West Bengal, which became one of the party’s key campaign messages during the election.

For now, the swearing-in of Suvendu Adhikari marks a major turning point in West Bengal politics. The coming months will show how the new government manages public expectations and plans to bring political and economic change to the state.
