Owaisi Criticises Bhojshala Verdict, Muslim Side to Move SC

A new political and legal debate has started after the Madhya Pradesh High Court gave its verdict in the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Mosque dispute in Dhar district. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi strongly criticised the decision and said the Muslim side will now approach the Supreme Court against the ruling.

The Bhojshala complex has remained a disputed religious site for many years. Hindu groups believe the site was originally a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati and linked to Raja Bhoj. Muslim groups, however, consider it the Kamal Maula Mosque where prayers have been offered for centuries.

The High Court ruled that the disputed structure is mainly a temple. The court also ended the old arrangement under which Hindus and Muslims were allowed to worship there on different days.

Reacting to the judgment, Owaisi compared the ruling to the Babri Masjid verdict and said there were similarities between the two cases. He questioned the basis of the decision and said the Muslim side was disappointed with the outcome.

According to reports, the court relied heavily on findings from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The survey reportedly suggested that the site had historical links to a temple and an ancient centre of learning connected to Raja Bhoj.

However, Muslim organizations argued that the ASI findings were unfair and incomplete. They said their objections were not properly considered during the hearing. Legal representatives from the Muslim side believe the judgment ignored several important historical and legal points.

The case has now become politically sensitive because of the comparisons being made with the Babri Masjid issue. Several leaders and community groups are closely watching the matter as it moves toward the Supreme Court.

Supporters of the verdict welcomed the decision and described it as historic. Hindu organizations said the judgment recognized the religious importance of the site and corrected what they called a long-standing historical issue.

On the other hand, Muslim groups expressed concern over the ruling and said they would continue the legal fight. They believe the case involves important questions related to religious rights and historical interpretation.

The High Court also said that the central government and the ASI would continue to protect and manage the monument under heritage laws. Reports also mentioned that the Muslim side may be offered alternative land for mosque construction.

Legal experts believe the dispute could continue for a long time because it involves religion, history, archaeology, and constitutional rights. The Supreme Court is expected to hear fresh arguments from both sides in the coming months.

The Bhojshala dispute once again highlights how historical and religious matters continue to influence politics and public debate in India. Cases involving places of worship often create strong emotions and attract national attention.
