LPG Tanker Explodes After Crashing Into Toll Plaza in UP's Kaushambi, Driver Killed

Kaushambi, Uttar Pradesh | June 28, 2026: A major accident occurred in Kaushambi district of Uttar Pradesh after an LPG tanker lost control and crashed into a toll plaza, triggering a massive explosion and a fierce fire. The tanker driver lost his life in the incident, while five toll plaza employees suffered burn injuries. Several vehicles parked near the toll plaza were also destroyed in the blaze.

The incident created panic in the area as flames quickly spread after the collision, sending thick black smoke into the sky. Emergency services rushed to the scene as local authorities secured the area to prevent further damage.

Tanker Burst Into Flames After Collision

According to initial reports, the LPG tanker reportedly went out of control before crashing into the toll plaza. Moments after the impact, a loud explosion was heard, and the tanker was engulfed in flames.

The fire spread rapidly due to the highly flammable LPG cargo, leaving little time for people nearby to react.

Witnesses said the explosion was powerful enough to cause panic among motorists and toll plaza staff, who immediately tried to move away from the burning vehicle.

Driver Dies in the Fire

The tanker driver was trapped inside the vehicle and could not escape before the fire intensified.

Authorities said the driver died at the scene after being caught in the blaze. Once firefighters managed to extinguish the fire, rescue teams entered the tanker and recovered human remains believed to be those of the driver.

Officials stated that the intense heat from the fire caused severe damage, making the recovery operation extremely challenging.

Five Toll Plaza Employees Injured

At least five employees working at the toll plaza sustained burn injuries during the incident.

They were provided immediate medical assistance and shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said their condition is being monitored, although the extent of their injuries has not been officially disclosed.

Emergency teams responded quickly to ensure that no additional people were trapped near the burning tanker.

Several Vehicles Destroyed

The fire also spread to vehicles parked inside the toll plaza premises.

According to officials, 16 motorcycles and two cars parked in the yard were completely destroyed after catching fire.

The toll plaza infrastructure also suffered significant damage due to the intense heat generated by the explosion.

Firefighters Bring Blaze Under Control

Fire brigade personnel reached the accident site shortly after receiving the emergency call.

Firefighters worked for nearly 30 minutes to bring the massive blaze under control using specialized firefighting equipment.

After the flames were extinguished, rescue teams carried out a detailed search of the damaged tanker and surrounding area.

Authorities later confirmed that the tanker had been completely destroyed in the fire.

Investigation Underway

Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Officials are examining whether mechanical failure, excessive speed, driver error, or another factor caused the tanker to lose control before colliding with the toll plaza.

Technical experts are also expected to inspect the damaged vehicle as part of the investigation.

Traffic Restored After Emergency Operations

Traffic movement near the toll plaza remained disrupted for several hours as emergency services carried out rescue operations, removed the damaged tanker, and cleared debris from the highway.

Authorities later restored traffic after ensuring the area was safe for commuters.

Authorities Appeal for Road Safety

Officials have urged drivers transporting hazardous materials such as LPG to follow all prescribed safety guidelines and exercise extra caution while travelling on highways.

The tragic accident has once again highlighted the risks associated with transporting highly flammable substances and the importance of strict safety measures to prevent similar incidents.
