Indian-origin teenager Arjun Aravind, 17, has been charged with the alleged killing of his mother and younger brother at their family home in Acton, Massachusetts. Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Sudha Venkatesan and 14-year-old Siddharth Aravind.

Arjun faces two counts of murder, along with charges including assault and battery on a household or family member, assault and battery, unauthorised use of a vehicle and motor vehicle theft. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are still working to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

Police Find Mother and Brother Inside Home

Police were called to the family’s Martha Lane residence in Acton after Arjun’s father became concerned that he could not reach his family.

A tutor who had been scheduled to visit the home earlier in the day reportedly could not get inside or contact anyone there. The father subsequently contacted police, leading officers to conduct a welfare check at the residence.

When officers entered the property, they found Siddharth on the first floor and Sudha in the basement. Both had suffered what authorities described as obvious trauma. The state medical examiner is expected to determine the official causes of death.

Teen Allegedly Left in Mother’s Car

Investigators said Arjun was not at the residence when officers arrived. Authorities believe he left the home in his mother’s vehicle after the incident.

Police later located the teenager inside the vehicle and took him into custody without incident. Authorities have not disclosed a confirmed motive for the killings.

Authorities Examine ChatGPT Activity

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said investigators had found evidence of concerning online activity involving Arjun before the incident.

According to Ryan, Arjun had been using the internet and ChatGPT to explore theoretical ideas or fictional stories involving the killing of his family.

Investigators said he reportedly created characters and developed fantasy or graphic-novel-style scenarios involving violence against family members. Authorities are examining this activity as part of the wider investigation, but they have not established that the AI searches directly caused or determined the alleged killings.

School Community Reacts to Incident

Arjun was a student at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. School officials described the incident as a serious tragedy affecting students, staff, friends and the wider community.

School authorities said counselling and mental-health support would be made available to students following the incident.

Acton officials have also described the case as a deeply disturbing event for the local community. Investigators continue to examine the teenager’s activities and the events leading up to the deaths.

Court Proceedings Underway

Arjun was initially arraigned in Lowell Juvenile Court on the motor vehicle-related charge. He is expected to face proceedings related to the murder and assault charges in Concord District Court.

Authorities have stressed that the investigation remains active. The exact causes of death, circumstances surrounding the alleged attack and possible motive are still being examined.
