Haryana Congress Rift in Spotlight as Hooda and Surjewala Exchange Remarks at Party Meeting

A public exchange of remarks between senior Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Randeep Singh Surjewala during a Haryana Congress meeting has reignited discussions about internal factionalism within the party.

The interaction took place at the Haryana Congress headquarters in Chandigarh during a meeting chaired by the party's newly appointed state in-charge, Sanjay Dutt. A video of the exchange quickly went viral on   , triggering political debate over unity within the state unit.

What Happened During the Meeting?

The meeting was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Kumari Selja, Birender Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda, Members of Parliament, MLAs, and other party functionaries.

During the programme, Hooda took the microphone and, in a light-hearted Haryanvi remark, said that if Surjewala supported him, "people would see the impact."

Surjewala immediately responded, saying, "It has been 20 years since I have been supporting you. Now it is your turn to support me." His response drew attention and fueled speculation about differences among the party's senior leadership.

Surjewala Highlights Congress Performance

While addressing the gathering, Surjewala said the Congress had secured an absolute majority on its own only three times in Haryana's political history. He stressed that the focus should be on increasing the party's legislative strength rather than discussing vote percentages alone.

The exchange between the two leaders was captured on camera and widely circulated, leading to renewed political discussions over leadership dynamics within the Haryana Congress.

Hooda Rejects Rift Speculation

Responding to reports of a rift, Bhupinder Singh Hooda dismissed the controversy and said there was no division within the party.

"We are united. There is no division. The video was just a joke, and he is my dear friend," Hooda said, attempting to downplay speculation over internal differences.

The clarification comes as the Congress prepares to strengthen its organisation in Haryana ahead of future political challenges.

Political Significance

Political observers believe that public interactions between senior leaders often attract attention, particularly at a time when the Congress is working to consolidate its position in Haryana.

While the viral video has sparked debate, party leaders have maintained that the organisation remains united and focused on strengthening its presence in the state.
