Delhi, UP Brace for Heavy Rain as Landslide Blocks Gangotri Highway in Uttarakhand

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand on Friday, while Mumbai is expected to receive light showers. The weather warning comes as continuous rainfall has disrupted normal life in several regions, causing waterlogging, traffic congestion, and landslides.

Heavy rain lashed the national capital overnight and into Friday morning, leading to severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas. Roads in parts of Delhi, including the Ghazipur Mandi area, were submerged, slowing traffic and making commuting difficult for residents. Vehicles were seen moving cautiously through flooded stretches as civic authorities monitored the situation.

In Uttarakhand, a landslide struck the Gangotri Highway at Nalu Pani in Uttarkashi district, blocking the road and disrupting the movement of vehicles on the important pilgrimage route. Officials said road-clearing teams were immediately deployed, and debris removal operations are underway to restore traffic as quickly as possible.

The IMD has advised residents in affected areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall, and follow updates issued by local authorities. Heavy rainfall in hilly regions may increase the risk of landslides, flash floods, and road blockages.

Meanwhile, Mumbai is expected to experience light rainfall throughout the day, with no major weather-related disruptions forecast at present.

Authorities are continuing to monitor weather conditions closely as the monsoon remains active across northern and western parts of the country. Emergency response teams have also been placed on alert in vulnerable districts to respond quickly to any rain-related incidents.

Travelers heading to Gangotri or other Himalayan destinations have been advised to check road conditions before starting their journey and follow instructions issued by local administration.
