Delhi SIR Notices to Advani, Jaishankar, Kejriwal, Sisodia: What CEO Said

Delhi’s electoral roll revision has brought several well-known names under the verification process, with LK Advani, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia among voters who received notices over discrepancies in their electoral details. Election officials have clarified that receiving a notice does not automatically mean that a voter’s name will be removed from the electoral roll.

Why Were SIR Notices Issued?

The notices are part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Delhi’s electoral rolls. Officials said 33.13 lakh voters were identified for notices because of discrepancies in their enumeration forms. Many cases involve voter details that could not be linked with the electoral roll from the previous intensive revision conducted in 2002. Other notices relate to logical discrepancies in voter information.

The draft electoral roll was published on August 31 after voters submitted enumeration forms during the verification exercise. The SIR process is intended to check and update electoral records before the final roll is published.

Advani, Jaishankar and Dhankhar Receive Notices

LK Advani, his daughter Pratibha and daughter-in-law Geetika are among those whose names could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral roll, according to officials. Advani’s son Jayant cleared the mapping process.

S Jaishankar and his wife Kyoko Jaishankar have also received notices under the category involving voters whose records could not be mapped with the previous SIR roll.

Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife Sudesh are also among those served notices. Several senior government officials and public figures, including Election Commissioner S S Sandhu, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, CBI Director Praveen Sood and General Upendra Dwivedi, have also appeared in the notice list.

Kejriwal and Sisodia Also in the List

Arvind Kejriwal and his family members are among the voters who received SIR notices. Manish Sisodia, his wife Seema and their son Meer have also been issued notices over discrepancies in their electoral details.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also issued a notice, but her electoral entry was subsequently validated after officials examined the documents submitted during verification. Her name has been cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll for the Shalimar Bagh constituency.

Delhi CEO Clarifies: Notice Does Not Mean Deletion

The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office has clearly stated that receiving an SIR notice does not mean that a voter’s name will automatically be deleted.

Officials said the notices are system-generated and are being issued to address discrepancies in electoral data. No voter’s name can be deleted without giving the concerned person an opportunity to be heard and passing a proper, speaking and appealable order.

Voters who receive notices can submit their replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Booth Level Officer. Officials will examine each case before taking a decision.

SIR Timeline for Delhi

The claims and objections phase is scheduled to continue until September 30. Voters who receive notices have been asked to submit their replies and required documents by October 29. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.

Late Economist Bibek Debroy Also Appears on List

The name of late economist Bibek Debroy has also appeared in the notice list. Debroy, who died in November 2024, was a voter in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. A senior election official said authorities were aware of his death and that his entry would be excluded from the final electoral roll.

What Voters Should Do After Receiving a Notice

Receiving a notice means that the voter’s details require verification. It does not by itself confirm deletion from the electoral roll. Concerned voters should respond to the notice and provide the required documents to the relevant election official within the specified period.

The Election Commission’s voter services system also provides facilities for checking electoral-roll details and making corrections where required.
