India Races to Ship iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max Ahead of Global Launch

Apple is stepping up iPhone production in India as it prepares to sell the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in global markets from the first day of sales.

Apple’s factories in India are reportedly working around the clock to manufacture and ship the two premium models before their global launch on Friday.

Several chartered flights, mainly departing from Chennai, have reportedly already carried iPhone shipments out of India. More flights could be arranged, with a large share of the devices expected to be sent to the United States.

Foxconn and Tata Electronics Produce Pro Models

Two factories in India are currently manufacturing the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. One facility is operated by Foxconn, while the other is run by Tata Electronics.

Apple is increasing production capacity for the premium models as it prepares to meet demand in the US and other international markets.

This move also shows the growing role of India in Apple’s global manufacturing and supply chain operations.

India-Made Pro Models Reach Global Markets

The iPhone 18 launch marks the second year in a row that Apple will sell India-made iPhones on the first day of global sales.

However, 2026 is the first time that India-made Pro and Pro Max models are expected to be available internationally from launch day.

Last year, India-made iPhone 17 models were available from the beginning of sales, while production of the Pro and Pro Max models for the Indian market started later.

Apple is not currently manufacturing its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, in India.

Most Pro Models Could Be Exported

Pro and Pro Max models account for a smaller share of iPhone sales in India compared with other variants. Industry experts cited in the report estimate that around 80% to 90% of India’s production of these premium models could be exported.

Higher exports could increase India’s iPhone export figures for the September quarter.

US-bound shipments are expected to remain an important part of Apple’s India supply strategy as the company continues to expand production outside China.

Apple Expands Manufacturing in India

Apple has increased its manufacturing operations in India significantly in recent years. Around one-quarter of Apple’s flagship iPhones are now reportedly manufactured in the country.

India has also become an important destination for Apple’s iPhone exports as the company continues to diversify its production network.

US-bound iPhone exports from India have grown sharply, reflecting Apple’s wider effort to reduce its dependence on China for manufacturing.

Apple Also Targets India’s Growing Market

Apple’s India strategy is not limited to manufacturing. The company is also looking to increase sales in the Indian market, where demand for premium smartphones has grown.

Apple has expanded its retail presence in India and is also preparing to introduce additional services for customers in the country.

Growing production and exports, along with rising domestic sales, are making India an increasingly important part of Apple’s global business strategy.
